At The Babel Collective we believe that reading, writing and discussing literature is one of the best ways to engage with our unsettled world.

We run paid adult literature classes, both online and in person, exploring how literary texts engage with key issues related to displacement such as climate change, migration and colonisation.

We also run volunteer-led classes working with people who have experienced displacement, including refugees and asylum seekers. Through our free English workshops, online classes and online journal, we offer opportunities for people who have experienced displacement to write, read, translate and discuss literature together.

About Us

The Babel Collective was founded in 2021. Originally conceived as a way of diversifying English language learning for refugees and asylum seekers, it has become a forum dedicated to promoting the voices of people who have experienced displacement, through a unique combination of free literature classes in English for people who have experienced displacement and a multilingual online journal which publishes new writing. We also run paid literature classes for interested students to discuss how literary texts can help us understand an unsettled world.
